Description:
This webinar was recorded November 13, 2009. The recording password is "networks".
The Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU) at Penn State University has been developing educational materials for the last 10 years. These materials are aimed at the secondary and post-secondary level where they have been demonstrated successfully in both formal and informal settings. At the secondary level we are seeing that many states are now mandating that teachers include an introduction to nanotechnology in the existing STEM curriculum. At the post-secondary level, nanofabrication training programs at the two- and four- year level are being developed across the country to help increase the number of highly skilled technical workers to ensure economic resiliency.
During this session, staff from the CNEU will be sharing some examples of laboratory and classroom activities that you can implement, as well as additional resources that are available to help bring nanotechnology into your classroom if you have limited resources. One major topic of discussion will be remote access. Remote access allows you to utilize the Internet to control a suite of characterization equipment housed at Penn State. Remote users are able to see nano-scale materials and characterize their properties from their own institution without having to invest in purchasing or maintaining this equipment. These tools include a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), and a Spectrophotometer.
