Quick Electronics 2010 Webinar Update
Education, Electronics September 14th, 2007We just finished our first Webinar this year on Electronics 2010: A New System Approach to Teaching Electronics. I want to thank everyone who attended and all the new people that we have not met before. There was some excellent questions and discussion concerning the New Systems Approach which Tom McGlew will be writing a blog on Monday about. For those of you who missed it or want to share with your friends, here is a link to the Electronics 2010 webinar. Many people wanted to know more about Electronics 2010, and I said I would post a blog with past topics here:
April 25 Where Have All the Electronics Technology Programs Gone?
June 12 The Hidden Tech
August 27 Can ABET Survive the Systems View of Electronics?
Again, thank you to all who came. September 28 we will be having our next webinar taught by Gordon Synder and Mike Qaissaunee - WebWare Part 1. If you ever wondered how to use all the new web tools or how to integrate them, or if you have no clue what the web 2.0 tools are, this is the webinar for you. I enjoyed the discussion about the direction of electronics engineering technology. As we see declining enrollments in the EET programs, it forces us to question the status quo. Is the enrollment slippage due to advertising, curriculum, pedagogy, or relevancy? Though I think we could do a much better job with advertising our programs, I believe the most bang for our buck would be to improve our curriculum and pedagogy.
From my experience in industry, a high number of jobs in electronics or hardware are going by the way of IT and software. I do not advocate replacing electronics with IT programs. Why? A lot of IT…
We thought so much of Matthew’s comment that we asked him if we could post it as a topic, and not just as a comment. He graciously agreed. To read his comment/blog, visit 2010 Electronics Webinar Reaction. Editor
