The Lack of Solar in Arizona
Electronics June 4th, 2008In Arizona where we have 300 days of sunshine a year, about 35 days of partly cloudy skies, and 30 days of cloudy skies. You would think that Arizona would be the solar capital of the world, or at least the United States. California has the one million solar home initiative. Germany has a very strong solar program (and they have many more cloudy days than Arizona). In fact, First Solar, located in Tempe, AZ, is providing them with huge amounts of their thin film solar panels (why is a foreign country their biggest customer and not America?). The politicians give lip service to solar, but nothing is really done. If the government really wanted us to end our reliance on oil, a “Manhattan” type project would be funded – not relying on just private industry. In Arizona, well, we have a solar air conditioner. I guess it is a start.
