Engineers Make a Difference
Education, Misc. November 14th, 2008Celeste Baine, who did Recruiting Women into Technology Programs webinar last month, her new book, Engineers Make a Difference, has just been released.
Here is her email that I just received:
If you are interested in outreach – recruiting and retaining students in engineering or technology careers, this is the book for you.
Tom McGlew of MATEC was kind enough to be a peer reviewer and help me mold it into something really informative and helpful.
From the back cover:
Engineers Make a Difference is about “showing the color” of engineering and, as a result, capturing students’ passion, imagination, curiosity and dreams; to inspire them to create a life of abundance, meaning and satisfaction from such a pursuit. It’s about finding ways to attract diversity in traditionally white, male-dominated fields, and it examines how we can use engineering’s full rainbow of choices to enhance the public’s perception of engineering — making it more understandable, captivating and socially desirable.
With a focus on the state of K-12 engineering education and motivating students, this book is an invitation to explore engineering and share the fun with students of all ages.

Tom really enjoyed the book and highly recommends it. He says that this book is great for everyone – from students who have questions, counsolers and teachers to guide students, as well as a section for parents to identify their child’s interest that could indicate their child would be happy in an Engineering job.
