Second Life in Education!
Education March 28th, 2008We had a great webinar this morning. A special thanks to Karl Kapp for the presentation and the tour of his Second Life island. There is so much that can be done! There were several great discussions going on about convincing your administration to allowing teachers to use Second Life as well as how to teach certain subjects. You can watch the webinar at www.matecnetworks.org and type the keyword search “webinar second life”. Just typing webinar will show all of our past webinars we have recorded.
Karl has on his blog several Second Life sites that are great to visit that can help answer your questions. As he said, it takes about thirty minutes to get comfortable in Second Life. Learning to create objects can take more time. Karl pointed out that he puts his students on building projects!
There were some Second Life Veterns there (you could tell by their clothes) and some Second Life newbies. This was a great mix and as is always the case, everyone is willing to help everyone else out. What was your experience for visiting Second Life the first time? What ideas do you have, if you had the time and administration’s permission, to create courses for your field. What would you do? Are there areas you are not sure of? One questions was, “How can this be applied to the field of engineering?” What answer would you give? What Second Life sites would you like to share?

Thanks Gordon for asking to borrow Karl’s island, and then to borrow him for the presentation!
