A Telescope Through the Center of the World
Misc. March 31st, 2009Imagine walking near the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and discovering a giant telescope breaking forth through the earth. Imagine looking in and seeing people on the other side in some other city. This is what people are seeing at the Brooklyn Bridge and London’s South Bank the past few days. Called a “Telectroscope”, it is an art project that:
If you believe artist and inventor Paul St. George, then his “Telectroscope” connects New York and London via a (very) long tunnel running through the earth’s crust, with the images bouncing back and forth using mirrors. The other explanation is that it is all done by optical fibres – take your pick.
There is a video you can watch of it in action and read the whole article.
Our world is really not that big of a place – and while looking through a “telectroscope” can be done a not so mysterious way with just a video camera and Internet connection, it can still bring two places together and bring wonderment to the people around. Wonderment can cause people to ask question. Questions are always good.
