Friday Wrap Up
Misc. June 26th, 2009It seemed to have been a quiet week.
The cost to make an iPhone, and the profit. iPhone 3GS sold over a million phones over the weekend. I wonder how many phones would be sold if Apple was at other phone companies as well (I know I would buy one if they were at my provider). What really should get people interested is how much it costs $178.96 and how much profit they make per phone, $420! Remember, that AT&T subsidize part of the phone cost and jacks up the service fees and contracts to use it. 1 million iphones means 420 million in profit. Not bad for a weekend of sales.
FAB Shortage Looms – Semiconductor fabs are stuck in 2009 recession mode means that 2010 will find a FAB shortage.
And, Microsoft released the pricing for MS 7 OS. A lot of different types, a lot of different prices. If you preorder certain versions, you can get 50% off – so “From June 26 to July 11, consumers in the U.S. can pre-order the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for $49.99 and the Windows 7 Professional upgrade for $99.99. The offer will be available online via retailers like Best Buy, Amazon.com, or the Microsoft Store.” Micorsoft needs to take a page from Apple – 1 operating system, not 7 or 9, and a decent price for upgrade (their preorder price is great – why not make that the normal upgrade price?). It is obvious they can do that.
Too many phone numbers? Google Voice will fix that. People dial one number and all your numbers you have hooked up will ring. Google Voice is in beta still (what of Google is not in beta?).
